Quantification of the contribution of septal movement to stroke volume in healthy subjects, athletes, patients with pulmonary insufficiency and patients with pulmonary hypertension

چکیده
Background In theory, movement of the septum contributes to left ventricular stroke volume (LVSV) if the movement is toward the left ventricle (LV) in systole. If the septum movement is toward the right ventricle (RV), as in dyssynchrony, the septal contribution to LVSV decreases. In patients with increased volume load of the RV the septum may move towards the RV and contribute to right ventricular stroke volume RVSV) at the expense of LVSV. The amount of contribution to stroke volume from septal movement is not kown. The aim of the study was to quantify the percentage of the left ventricular stroke volume, that is derived by the septal movement during systole, in healthy volunteers and patients with volume or pressure load of the RV.

Vitamin D status and distribution in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease versus healthy controls
Background: Vitamin D has a potential to modulate inflammatory response against noxious particles in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The present study was conducted to determine the status of serum vitamin D in COPD versus healthy group. Methods: The patients presented to the outpatient pulmonary clinic of Ayatollah Rouhani Hospital, Babol Iran. Diagnosis of...
متن کاملThe prevalence of right to left shunt in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients with increased pulmonary hypertension
Background: One of the important etiologies for cryptogenic stroke is paradoxical embolization secondary to Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). Foramen ovale can secondarily reopen due to Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) which is common among the older age. PAH is known as a frequent and life threatening complication of COPD. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of PFO between COP...
متن کاملEvaluation of Pulmonary Hypertension In First Degree Relatives Of Patients With Primary Pulmonary Hypertension
Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) was defined for the first time in 1951 as primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). Some studies emphasized on the role of genetics in the development of pulmonary hypertension in family members of affected patients. So, in this study we evaluated the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension in first degree family of patients with documented PPH. Methods: In thi...

Background and Aim: Pulmonary hypertension is an independent risk factor in COPD. Echocardiographic evaluation is important for determination of prognosis in these patients. Cardiovascular manifestations in COPD include increased arterial stiffness, ischemic heart disease, chronic heart failure and cor-pulmonale. Some studies suggest that right ventricular (RV) dysfunction occurs in early sta...
